For lovers of beautiful gardens we suggest a wonderful day-trip  to visit two of Tuscany’s finest – set in the grounds of villas that are among the finest examples of florentine renaissance architecture.

The day begins at Villa Gamberaia, perched on a hill-top just above the city of Florence. Its perfect gardens offer both extraordinary simplicty of composition with tremendous variety through the clever use of light and shade, the use of several levels, the abundance of water and sheltered walks – and the astounding views of Florence. Then on to Villa Petraia, one of the most famous and beautiful villas built by the Medicis, which is a fine example of the country residences owned by the grand-dukes of the Medici family. Surrounded by lush parkland on several levels, and stunning views, the villa boasts many priceless paintings and decorations.
